How to Rename an Image on Windows, iPhone/iPad, and Android

To ensure your artwork is correctly identified and displayed in our online gallery, your image file must be renamed before you upload it. Please do not use default camera names like IMG_1234.jpg.

The Required Format

ArtistNameTitle.jpg (Example: JohnDoePetunias.jpg)

On a Windows Computer

  1. Find your image file in your folders (usually in “Pictures” or “Downloads”).

  2. Right-click on the file.

  3. Select Rename from the menu (on Windows 11, it looks like a small icon of a luggage tag or a square with a cursor).

  4. Type in your new name (ArtistNameTitle) and press the Enter key on your keyboard.

On a Mac (Apple Computer)

  1. Find your image file in your Finder window.

  2. Click once on the file to highlight it, then press the Return key on your keyboard.

  3. The text will become highlighted. Type in your new name (ArtistNameTitle).

  4. Press Return again to save the change.

On an iPhone or iPad

  1. Open the Photos app and select your image.

  2. Tap the Share icon (the square with an arrow pointing up).

  3. Scroll down and tap Save to Files. Select a location (like “On My iPhone”) and tap Save.

  4. Open the Files app (the blue folder icon) and find your image.

  5. Press and hold your finger on the image until a menu appears.

  6. Tap Rename, type in your new name, and tap Done.

On an Android Phone

  1. Open your Gallery or Photos app.

  2. Select the image you want to rename.

  3. Tap the three dots (More) or the “i” (Info) icon.

  4. Look for Rename or Edit Name.

  5. Type in the new name and tap Save or OK.

Quick Tips for Success:

  • Keep it Simple: Avoid using special characters like #, $, %, or & in your filename.

  • Check the Extension: Ensure the file ends in .jpg or .jpeg.

  • Resolution: For the best appearance on our website, make sure your image is clear and cropped to show only the artwork (no frames or backgrounds).
